The Vision Of
From the very beginning, Katie was interested in practicing family law. Having interned with a prominent family law firm in Waco and then completing a local judicial internship, she then began her practice in Waco in 2010 under the mentorship of two well-known family law attorneys in the area. She began practicing criminal law when her mentor encouraged her to work alongside him where she was able to try several criminal jury trials.
Katie was able to get a firsthand look at how the process sometimes fails those accused and that bad things can happen to good people. Criminal defense work has become a true passion of hers, as she strongly believes in a criminal defendant’s constitutional right to counsel. She wants to ensure that those in power are held accountable and that the law is being followed at all steps along the way.
Overview and Experience
Katie Casper is a native Texan who has called Waco home for the past 13 years. Having grown up in the Texas Hill Country, Katie was eager to get out and explore the big city after high school. At eighteen years old, she moved to New York City to attend Fordham University, where she graduated with a BA in Communications & Media Studies and Concentration in Journalism. She also spent time studying abroad in Spain, where she was able to travel and see the world. While the big city had its appeal, Katie missed her family in Texas. She returned to attend Baylor Law School, where she graduated with her J.D. in 2010.
While honing her specialities in family law and criminal defense, Katie began taking appointments as attorney ad litem for children in foster care back in 2014. She has represented children in foster care for the last several years and feels honored to give voice to these children who are often forgotten by the system. Having worked with children in vulnerable situations, she strives to help her clients make choices that are consistent with what is best for their children.
From 2018-2022, Katie served as the Director of Alumni Relations for Baylor Law School, where she coordinated continuing education programs and networking events for Baylor Lawyers and assisted in helping recent graduates connect with other attorneys for mentorship and educational opportunities. During that time she also assisted the Professional Development Program, which brought attorney programming to students to enhance the practical aspects needed in their legal education. She is immensely proud to call herself a “Baylor Lawyer” and grateful for her time spent working with the alumni and students.
Katie participates in numerous civic and professional organizations. She currently serves as Director on the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association, was Chair of the Executive Committee of the McLennan County Dispute Resolution Center, is a member of the Judge Abner V. McCall American Inn of Court, and is member of the McLennan County Criminal Defense Legal Association and Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
Katie and her husband have two children and reside in Lorena, Texas.
